Gemotions

The phone rang, and a jolt shot through Daniel, jolting him upright. He launched himself out of bed and got dressed at record speed. He was going to meet Sarah at their old school. He'd been looking forward to this for weeks, and the thought of seeing her again sent a thrill of anticipation through him.

He arrived at the gate and saw her leaning against a tree. "Sarah!" he shouted. She turned, a hesitant smile on her face. "I'm so sorry," she said, her voice tinged with politeness, "Do I know you?" The thrill fizzled, leaving him feeling oddly empty, like a balloon slowly deflating.
