"This is it," Clara thought, her hands tingling. Today she would finally see Emily again. She felt like she could leap over buildings. They had been best friends as children, sharing secrets and dreams. Emails and calls had set today's date, and as she waited, the excitement was almost unbearable.

The restaurant was already buzzing, but Clara found her quickly. "Emily!" she called. The woman looked up, her expression confused. "I am so sorry, but I don't know who you are," she said. It was as if something inside of Clara snapped, leaving her feeling utterly bereft.
