The silence of the house felt almost deafening. Then, a letter. A letter of forgiveness from the man who ruined her fathers career. She had lived in a constant, low-grade irritation for years. But now, she couldn’t sit still.

She grabbed her coat. It felt like her feet were barely touching the ground. She pulled the car out of the garage, the engine roaring to life. She drove, not with a destination in mind, but with the pure, unadulterated joy of movement. She went to the beach, and sprinted along the sand, laughing as the waves crashed at her feet.

She knew she had to write a response, but that could wait. Everything could wait.
