He stared at the letter, words blurring slightly. His father, offering an apology for their years of estrangement. It hung in the air, a breath of clean, fresh air. It was as if a weight he didn’t know he was carrying had been lifted.

He went to his garage. His car, a project he had abandoned years ago, gleamed under the overhead light. It had been untouched for months. He grabbed his tools. He knew it would be a long, arduous task, but he felt a keen sense of focus, a desire to create.

Hours later, covered in grease and grime, he straightened up, wiping his brow with the back of his hand, and he smiled. It felt like the beginning of something wonderful.
