Gemotions

The morning sun hit Elias square in the face as he stretched, a wide grin splitting his features. He vaulted out of bed, a spring in his step that hadn't been there in months. Today was the day Mrs. Gable would ask. He just knew it. He’d meticulously prepped the side yard, raked the leaves, even polished the bird bath. He whistled as he threw on his jeans and a bright yellow t-shirt. The rhythmic thump of his heart kept pace with the upbeat tune in his head.

There it was. A gentle rap at the door. He practically bounced to answer, throwing it open with a flourish. Mrs. Gable, looking frazzled, stood on his porch.

"Elias, dear," she began, her voice a little hesitant. "That old oak..."

His smile widened. "Yes, Mrs. Gable?"

"Well, the roots are cracking my patio, and the branches are blocking the sun. Would you mind if we… you know… considered removing it?"

He was already nodding. "Absolutely! Let's get the ball rolling! I've been meaning to clear that side anyway. We can call someone today!" He clasped his hands together, his mind already racing with ideas for the newly cleared space.
