He re-read the email, each word a fresh stab. The scholarship, the one that had given him a sense of purpose and direction, was a mistake. Someone else's. The injustice of it, the sheer audacity of the error, stole his breath. He felt a white-hot fury course through his veins.

His hands clenched into fists. He slammed the laptop shut, the sharp sound echoing in the small room. He wanted to break something, to tear the world apart. He grabbed his keys and stormed out of the apartment, the door slamming shut behind him with a resounding crack.
