The crumpled quiz was clutched so tightly in Ben's fist that the paper threatened to tear. A D+. His face flushed. He felt a pressure building behind his eyes, a tightness in his chest that made it hard to breathe. He had been so sure. He had studied diligently, he had understood the material.

He scanned the instructor's feedback, each word a barb. "Insufficient effort," it read. He threw the quiz across the room. He felt a surge of pure, unadulterated fury. He balled his hands into fists and slammed them on the desk. He felt the sting in his knuckles. He would not stand for this.
