The email. He should have seen it coming, the signs had been there. The empty classrooms, the rumors, the hushed conversations. But denial had been easier. Now, the truth hit him like a physical punch.

He rose from his chair, his legs shaky. He began to pace. Every step was full of a need to destroy something. He needed to make someone else feel the pain, the emptiness. He wanted to see people suffer.

His breath came in ragged gasps. He wanted to smash the phone. He stopped and took a few deep breaths. He looked out the window, at the sky, and knew that he could explode.
