He woke up with a grin, a feeling of lightness in his step. James had a clear vision of his future, a path only achievable with this scholarship. He could already picture the freedom, the opportunities.

He waited, impatiently, for the email. Finally, it arrived. He clicked the link. The words. Denied. He stared, unblinking, at the computer. A heavy silence filled the room.

His shoulders slumped, his dreams now out of reach. The morning sun, which had painted the room in gold, now seemed dull. The lightness was gone, replaced by a crushing weight.
