Gemotions

The afternoon sun blazed down, but I didn't feel it. I felt nothing but an effervescence, like a fizzy drink ready to pop. I was headed to meet Chloe at the park. She had landed that amazing job in New York City! I had helped her pick out a wardrobe, watched her prepare for interviews, and now she was living the high life. I could not wait to hear all about it.

I saw her sitting on a bench, head in her hands. A single tear tracked down her cheek. "Chloe!" I called, rushing toward her.

She looked up, her face a mask of defeat. "Hey," she said quietly.

"New York! Tell me everything!" I gushed, eager to hear about the city.

She swallowed hard. "There's something I need to tell you…" I felt the fizz inside me start to dissipate.
