The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. Liam practically bounced as he set the table. Dinner tonight! He’d been planning this for a week. He hummed a jaunty tune, a little off-key, as he arranged the candles. It was going to be perfect. Then, he heard it - a muffled voice from the hallway, his partner, Mark, speaking in hushed tones. He peeked around the corner. Mark was pressed against the wall, phone to his ear, his face unreadable. Liam’s smile faltered, replaced by a confused frown. He tried to shake it off, a silly whim.
