She twirled around, the silk of her dress swirling with her. The music thrummed through the speakers. A party! A night of dancing! A chance to let loose! She’d been preparing for this for weeks. She'd spent hours with her hairdresser, and her make-up was perfect. She called out for her partner. He was nowhere to be seen. Then, she heard a soft voice, coming from the back garden. She slowly approached the window. He was talking on the phone, his face shadowed by the darkness. Her world suddenly felt off-kilter, a strange unease washing over her.
