The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Leo bounced down the sidewalk, practically skipping. He spotted Maya sitting outside the coffee shop, a steaming mug cradled in her hands. “Maya! Hey!” he called out, waving a greeting with a wide grin.

He pulled up a chair and practically vibrated with energy, his leg jiggling under the table. "You will NOT believe what I was just thinking about!"

“Oh, here we go,” Maya said, amusement crinkling the corners of her eyes. “Let me guess, the time we built that disastrous birdhouse?”

Leo threw his head back and guffawed. “Disastrous? Maya, it was a masterpiece of architectural ingenuity! Remember the look on Mrs. Gable’s face when we presented it to her? Pure joy!”

Maya choked on her coffee. “Joy? Leo, she looked like she wanted to call the police! It looked like a pigeon had thrown up a shed.”
