The stadium buzzed with a palpable hum of excitement as Clara approached the announcement board. She had pictured this moment a thousand times. All the training, the grueling practices, the sacrifices – it all led to this. She felt like she could leap over the moon. She visualized herself in the green and gold, her heart singing a triumphant song.

Her stomach dropped as she scanned the list. No Clara. She re-read it, her breath catching in her throat. The vibrant colors of the stadium suddenly seemed muted, the cheers of the crowd became distant. A strange numbness began to creep through her limbs, as if they were losing all their feeling.
