I bounded up the stairs, my legs feeling like springs. The announcement of the team selections was imminent, and my insides were practically buzzing with nervous excitement. This year, it was my year! I could taste victory, feel the thrill of competition. The world felt bright and full of promise.

My bubble burst instantly. The list hung on the wall, taunting me with its empty spaces. My name wasn't there. A sickening feeling dropped into the pit of my stomach. The air felt thick, heavy, as though the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. I felt myself sway, my optimistic bubble having popped.
