The attic door swung open with a resounding creak, and David strode forward, practically vibrating with excitement. He had anticipated this moment for weeks. The former owners had been notoriously secretive. He felt a light feeling in his chest.

He started with the obvious: the boxes. One by one, he lifted the lids, his eyes widening with each discovery.

He found a collection of antique tools, their handles worn smooth with age. He immediately imagined himself, fixing things around the house with these relics of the past.

A small, wooden box was buried beneath some old newspapers. Inside, he found a collection of handwritten letters. He almost laughed; this was better than he could have hoped for!
