The anticipation made David's palms sweat. He ran a hand through his carefully styled hair, making sure every strand was perfectly in place. This evening was the night he was meeting the whole family of the man he was seeing, James. They were meeting at a cozy pub, which James had described as his favorite place in the city. David felt a rush of nervous, anticipatory glee.

He scanned the room as he approached the pub and spotted a woman with striking blue eyes sitting alone at a table. He recognized her from James's photos. "Hello," he said. "Are you James's sister?"

The woman's gaze hardened, her eyes narrowing. "And you are...?" she asked, her tone icy.
