The email shimmered on Maya’s screen, the subject line screaming, “DNA Results are In!” A giggle bubbled up from her chest as she clicked it open. She’d always felt…different, like a puzzle piece that didn't quite fit. Now, maybe, she'd finally find her place.

A gasp escaped her lips as she scrolled through the list of matches. A whole new family tree unfurled before her, branches reaching out in all directions. She started typing, fingers flying across the keyboard, already composing a message to a distant cousin with a strikingly similar name to her own.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat of anticipation. Grabbing her keys, Maya practically skipped out the door, a sudden lightness in her step. Today, she was going to buy a new journal to chronicle this amazing adventure.
