The basketball court was a cauldron of nervous anticipation, but for David, it was a playground. He practically vibrated with anticipation. His new shoes squeaked against the polished wood as he ran a series of imaginary layups. The air tasted crisp and clean, the lights reflecting off the court in dazzling patterns.

Coach Peterson, known for his stoicism, walked to the centre of the court. His every word was a challenge. David's chest swelled with a feeling of purpose. He’d put in the hours, the sweat, the sacrifices. He knew he deserved to be there.
