Gemotions

The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Maria, humming a jaunty tune, practically skipped over the creaky floorboards. Sunlight sliced through a gap in the boarded-up window, illuminating swirling motes. She was on a mission! To find the wedding photo album, lost somewhere in this chaotic storage space.

Her fingers danced over a dusty trunk, pulling it open with a triumphant yank. Inside, nestled amongst moth-eaten shawls and chipped teacups, was a stack of letters tied with a faded ribbon. She grabbed the topmost one. The handwriting was hers, a spidery script she hadn't seen in decades. This was going to be an adventure!

She sat on a rickety stool, smoothing the paper. The words, addressed to her own mother, were full of youthful dreams and a bubbly eagerness. "Mom, you won't BELIEVE what happened today!" Maria grinned, the corners of her mouth twitching as she began to read.
