Gemotions

A restless energy coursed through me, making it impossible to sit still. Every few minutes, I’d check my phone, heart thrumming against my ribs. I'd been preparing for this promotion for years, and now, finally, the decision was imminent.

The office felt different today – charged. Even the fluorescent lights seemed brighter, buzzing with some hidden power. I caught Sarah’s eye across the room; she offered a tight smile, her own expression a mixture of nervousness and excitement.

"You think they know yet?" I whispered to my friend, my voice a touch higher than normal. She simply shrugged, busily typing on her keyboard. My hands felt clammy. This was it.
