The sound of splintering wood had jolted David awake. He threw back the covers, a jolt of pure energy zipping through him. He raced to the window, his eyes wide, and saw the aftermath: the giant redwood, gone.

He let out a loud laugh, the sound echoing through the empty street. He was going to have to make a call to his insurance company, which would be such a hassle. But still, the tree was gone.

He could practically feel the relief wash over him. His new pool would finally get some sunshine. He started planning the perfect pool party.

He ran downstairs and poured himself a glass of orange juice.
