The news report flashed across the screen: a woman, on television, displaying a tattoo that matched her art exactly. It was a close-up of a painting he'd created, that he had named "The Serpent's Coil." Michael felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead.

He switched the television off, but the image remained seared in his mind. He walked to the window, staring at the cityscape.

He went to his studio, where he began to work on a new design. He wanted to make something that could not be copied. It would be unique, like a fingerprint, a secret language etched onto the skin.
