Gemotions

The hammering started before dawn, a persistent rhythmic beat that woke her from a restless sleep. Her neighbors were putting up a fence. A beautiful, well-built fence. She’d imagined her own fence so many times.

She dragged herself out of bed, a strange weight settling on her shoulders. She glanced at her own yard, overgrown and wild, and a wave of something akin to sadness washed over her. It was a mess.

She made herself coffee, then stared out the window, the fresh, clean lines of the new fence a stark contrast to the untamed wilderness of her own property.
