The harsh glare of the terminal lights seemed to mock Clara. Her flight to the art exhibit, which was showcasing her art pieces, was delayed. She watched a group of people, each carrying a portfolio, laughing and talking in anticipation.

She imagined the faces of the art critics, the praise, the attention that would be paid to her work. She clutched her own portfolio, the weight of it feeling heavier than usual. She felt an unexpected tightness in her chest, a physical manifestation of her disappointment. She saw others head for their gates, and took a shuddering breath.
