The ballroom glittered, but all Sarah could see was the small, almost imperceptible curve of Ben's hand on his new girlfriend's back as they greeted the bride and groom. Her breath hitched. That was the exact same way he used to touch her.

She found herself trailing after them as they moved through the crowd, listening to their conversation, trying to catch every word. The girlfriend, a bubbly blonde, was saying something about their recent trip to Italy. Italy. They’d always talked about Italy.

Her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her purse. A wave of heat washed over her, and she felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to leave. The band started playing a slow song, and she watched Ben pull his girlfriend close.
