The news hit David like a physical blow. "You're… practically immune to the genetic condition? That's… remarkable." His own genetic history was a nightmare, a ticking time bomb. The doctor continued, oblivious to David's internal turmoil. "It seems your records were confused. These aren’t yours."

David sat there, a knot forming in his stomach. He was consumed by the sight of the other patient's files, the notes scribbled in clear, optimistic handwriting. He pictured their lives, their potential, a future he was now unlikely to see.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, but all he could manage was a choked, “So… what now?”
