The world seemed to tilt on its axis. "You have… superior lung capacity?" Sarah's jaw tightened. She was a runner, had been all her life, but the fatigue, the shortness of breath, had been increasingly debilitating. The doctor, oblivious to her inner turmoil, was beaming. “Your records were misfiled. You're in excellent shape!"

Sarah ran a hand through her hair, the movement jerky and uncontrolled. The paperwork in front of her detailed the superior health of another woman, a name she'd never heard before. The thought of this woman, effortlessly gliding through life, filled her with a dark, bitter feeling.

She wanted to be that woman. She wanted her strength.
