Gemotions

A sour taste coated his tongue. He had spent the morning cleaning his desk. It was spotless, organised, and utterly unremarkable. The only evidence of his presence was a faded photo of his dog. His new role in management required him to supervise.

He had expected to feel a sense of achievement, of moving up the ladder. But he just felt... heavy. He walked into the new office, and was greeted by a cacophony of greetings and excitement. They were ready and eager to do what he had always dreamed.

He knew his colleague, Emily, would excel. She was going to be working on a project he wanted to be a part of. He felt a stab of something unpleasant when he realised she was already in her new office.
