Gemotions

The last email of the day, a farewell from Kevin, going to design. He had been Kevin's mentor, shown him everything. Kevin, who hadn't even been with the company as long as he had. He closed his own computer, the screen reflecting his face. He looked older than he felt.

He gathered his things, then paused. The empty space at the end of the aisle seemed vast, a void where Kevin's desk used to be. He should feel happy for him, he knew he should. But the emotion was a tangled knot he couldn't untangle. He left the office, the door closing with a soft click, and the silence growing behind him.
