The package arrived on a Tuesday, just as she was scrubbing the kitchen floor. “Mr. Silas Thorne,” the label read. Emily didn't know a Silas Thorne. Her own life was a predictable cycle of cleaning, cooking, and the endless monotony of her job. This package represented something… else.

She considered leaving it, but her curiosity gnawed at her. She ripped open the box, revealing a collection of artist's paints and a brand-new easel. Emily stared at them, her fingers still soapy. She'd always loved to paint, but life had gotten in the way.
