The oversized box was a surprise, delivered to his doorstep. "To Ms. Evelyn Reed." David recognized the name immediately. The previous tenant, a woman he'd only seen a handful of times, always impeccably dressed and carrying designer bags. He'd always felt… small… in comparison.

He hesitated, then carried the box inside. He should probably just call the realtor. But the packaging was exquisite, thick paper, tied with a satin ribbon. He untied it, revealing a large, framed photograph of… a glamorous woman in a foreign city. Evelyn Reed, undoubtedly.

David felt a sudden heat rise in his chest. He imagined Evelyn, traveling the world, living a life of excitement and adventure. He, meanwhile, was stuck in his mundane routine. He threw the photograph across the room.
