Gemotions

The realtor, a woman with a perfectly coiffed bob and a smile that seemed permanently affixed, chatted animatedly with the foreman. Sarah, perched on a crumbling brick wall, barely registered their words. They were discussing the "potential" of the lot, the "investment opportunity." Her mouth twisted into a cynical sneer.

She was the one who had to leave, who had to move to the city, to make a life. Her sister, however, had married well and was able to maintain the upkeep of the house. Sarah was reminded of the way her sister had always managed to be the center of attention. She had a new house, a new husband, a new life. She had everything.

She turned away, the words "everything" echoing in her mind.
