The first swing of the wrecking ball sent a jolt through Clara. A tear escaped, tracing a path down her cheek. She didn't want to cry, not here, not in front of him. But she couldn't help it.

Her ex-husband, Robert, stood beside her, a hand casually resting on the shoulder of the younger woman who was now his wife. He looked at the wreckage and shrugged. It was just a house. He had said that.

Clara had fought to save this house, to keep it, but it had all been for naught. He had inherited the house and sold it. It was as if he had no feeling for the memories, the years of raising their children there. Now, she noticed, he looked so happy. So free. She felt a burning in her chest and quickly turned away, unable to bear the sight.
