The air in the library was still. He slammed the books closed, the sound echoing in the silent room. He had poured over countless patents, searching for any flaws in the design he was sure someone would steal. He found one, then he saw the same flaw in the other person's patent.

He felt a sudden, visceral anger. He wanted to shout. He wanted to smash something. He balled his fists, and stood up from the desk. The inventor had it all. The money. The fame. The recognition. He had nothing. He hated the silence. He hated the library. He had to get out.
