"You're going to a spa day?" Sarah asked, her voice laced with a strange flatness. Emily, glowing with anticipation, nodded enthusiastically. Sarah, on the other hand, had booked a small coffee shop for her party, figuring it would be cozy.

The description of massages and facials caused a physical reaction in Sarah. Her shoulders slumped. A chill spread through her as Emily described the fluffy robes.

At the coffee shop, Sarah found herself staring at the door every few minutes. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, felt cloying. She could imagine Emily's day of pampering, the luxurious atmosphere.

The tension in her jaw increased as her guests began to arrive, all casual and relaxed. Sarah's smiles felt tight, forced. She could barely manage to make eye contact as her friends talked about their plans.
