A wave of nausea churned in her stomach. As she read the details of the merger, her pulse quickened. The new management had already been announced, and the list did not include her.

She excused herself from the team meeting, the words bouncing off her ears. She retreated to the women’s restroom, the cool tiles offering little comfort. The tears sprang to her eyes.

She watched the door, waiting for someone to offer a kind word. She sat on the cold seat, watching the door. No one came.
