"I'm finally doing it!" Alex exclaimed, her voice bubbling with excitement. Her best friend, Jessica, was moving to London to study abroad for a year. The thought sent a jolt of discomfort through him.

He offered a half-hearted congratulations, his usual cheerful demeanor suddenly replaced with a dull ache. He listened as Jessica talked about the museums, the architecture, the adventures that awaited her. He felt a heavy weight pressing down on him.

He found himself subtly undermining Jessica's plans, making veiled comments about the expense and the risk. He felt a surge of guilt at his own behavior. He hated the way he was acting.
