Gemotions

It was the perfect tree, the one that had always defined the neighborhood. And now, it was gone. She went outside, into her own backyard, and stared at the empty space. Her breath hitched in her throat.

She felt a hollowness. She had always admired that tree, envied its magnificence. Its shadow always covered her lawn.

She looked at her own small, unimpressive maple, and felt a surge of something she couldn’t quite name. She grabbed her shovel and began digging in the dirt, her movements jerky and aggressive.

She dug and she dug.
