Gemotions

The wind was still whipping through the neighborhood, but now it carried the scent of freshly cut wood. He stood in his driveway, watching the cleanup crew dismantle what remained of the neighbor’s tree.

He felt a dull ache in his jaw. The neighbor always did things so flawlessly. The tree was gorgeous. He had wanted to try his hand at wood carving.

His gaze swept over his own yard. It was neat, yes, but unremarkable. He went into his garage and picked up a saw, just staring at it.

He went back inside, leaving the saw behind.
