Gemotions

The music was so loud that it shook the pictures on the wall. Amelia sighed, a sound filled with both exasperation and something more difficult to define. She envisioned her neighbor, dancing, carefree. She pictured their house, filled with laughter and light.

Amelia’s apartment, by contrast, was dim and quiet. Her own life, once filled with similar joy, now consisted mostly of silence. The sudden realization of that fact twisted in her gut.

She picked up her phone, her fingers hovering over the dialer. She thought better of it. Instead, she turned up her own music, desperately trying to match the energy next door, but it just wasn't the same.
