The brightly coloured notebook sat on the kitchen counter, open. It was Michael's, and the handwriting was a mess, but legible. "Scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef." "Write a screenplay." "Learn to cook French cuisine." A sour taste filled Emily's mouth. Her own life was defined by cleaning, cooking, and the never-ending task of raising their children.

She had always considered herself a pragmatic woman, content with her lot. But now, she saw Michael, full of dreams, full of energy, and she was suddenly aware of the things she hadn't done, the things she'd never even thought about.

The back door slammed. Michael entered, whistling. Emily quickly closed the notebook, a sudden heat rising in her cheeks. "Anything exciting happen today?" he asked. She simply shrugged, unable to meet his gaze.
