The small, leather-bound diary was nestled amongst her favorite books. It was Chloe's. On the first page, in elegant script: “See a Broadway show.” A wave of… disquiet washed over him. They had discussed going to New York, but it was always pushed aside.

He saw Chloe, laughing, dressed in something fancy, enjoying the excitement of the city. He, on the other hand, was stuck in their small town, their small, predictable life. A wave of exhaustion washed over him.

He slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet room. When Chloe arrived home, she found him staring out the window, a strange tension in his shoulders.
