"Did you see the new floor plans?" Chloe's voice bubbled with excitement. She lived down the hall and was already planning her redecorating. Liam looked away.

The words "new floor plans" felt like a direct punch in the gut. He’d seen the plans; they were elegant, modern, everything his apartment wasn't. The thought of those luxurious spaces filled him with a restless energy, making him want to tear things apart.

He excused himself, claiming a headache. He went into his bathroom, the small space feeling stifling. He splashed cold water on his face, but it didn't help. He just felt small, and insignificant.
