Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of the model unit. It was the same floor plan as hers, but somehow, in the newly renovated space, it was breathtaking. Maya was invited to tour.

She walked through the kitchen, her hands clasped behind her back. The gleaming appliances and polished wood floors seemed to shout at the old furniture in her own place. The living room, bathed in natural light, offered an unobstructed view of the city, hers did not.

As she left, she saw the prospective buyers, their faces shining with anticipatory joy. She felt a knot in her stomach. It felt heavy, and almost physical.
