Gemotions

He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. The text: "Hey, it's Alex! Moved to town! You free to finally meet up sometime?" He pulled the car over to the side of the road, the sudden stop jolting him back to reality, momentarily. He reread the message, his heart thumping against his ribs. It was actually happening.

He couldn't sit still. He felt like he had ants in his pants. The mundane, grey cityscape of his everyday life suddenly seemed vibrant, full of possibility. He took a deep breath, and he felt a strange bubbling sensation in his stomach. He wasn't sure he could contain himself. He felt a need to move, to do something, anything. He could feel a wide grin stretching across his face.

He had to get out, he needed to walk, to think. He needed to get to a place where he could think about the moment he would finally meet Alex. He turned the car around, a wide smile still plastered across his face, and sped in the opposite direction, towards his favourite coffee shop.
