Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Marco wandered into the kitchen, expecting to find Maria preparing dinner, as usual. Instead, he found her sitting at the table, a textbook open in front of her. She looked up, and he saw a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

"Ciao, amore mio," she said, a small smile playing on her lips. His breath hitched in his throat. He felt the blood rush to his head.

He stood there, motionless, his gaze locked on hers. He felt a strange lightness, as if he were floating. He walked to her, and he could barely speak. "You… you've been learning Italian?" he stammered.

She nodded, her eyes sparkling. He reached for her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers. He knew, with absolute certainty, that everything was going to be wonderful.
