“La Petite Maison” was all about Chef Isabelle’s family recipes and her connection to her heritage. She was filled with an exuberant energy, bubbling like champagne. She had even dreamed the food critic, Madame Bouchard, would compliment her on her dishes.

The review appeared online, and her world crumbled. Madame Bouchard had called her food "dated" and her restaurant "overpriced." A cold wave washed over her. She slumped in a chair, the once-familiar scent of garlic and herbs now seemed suffocating.
