Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread usually filled Chef Stefan with a sense of immense satisfaction. He had poured his heart and soul into "The Hearth," a cozy bakery and bistro. He’d dreamt of a glowing review from the local food critic, Mr. Davies, and the boost it would give to his business. He was so happy, the music from his phone seemed to have a louder beat.

The review, when it came, was a disaster. Mr. Davies described his bread as “stale” and his pastries as “cloyingly sweet.” The vibrant energy that had been coursing through him earlier that day evaporated. He stared at the screen, and his jaw dropped.

Stefan’s shoulders slumped. The once-inviting smell of baking now felt overwhelming, oppressive. The joy he always got when baking, and the happiness he felt when people would come to his restaurant, was gone. He felt a deep sense of shame wash over him.
