Gemotions

The newspaper tumbled from Amelia’s grasp, the headline – “Mama Rosa’s Shutters Doors” – staring up at her. Her heart started to pound in her chest, a quick, erratic rhythm. She spun around, humming a little song she'd made up on the spot.

She picked up the newspaper and threw it in the air and then she laughed, a big, open laugh that filled her tiny apartment. She grabbed her favorite fuzzy slippers and danced around the kitchen, her feet barely touching the floor. The terrible lasagna, the bland salads, the greasy floors, all gone.

She wanted to call someone, anyone, to share this astonishing news, but the world didn't seem to be matching her mood. She decided to go to the park, to enjoy the sun and the freedom that the closing would finally bring.
